The Empty Raincoat
Description
Sir Graham Day – Financial Times
‘If you are part of, think about, care about or are in any way influenced by the world of work, and who is not, this powerful and moving book is for you.’
Review
I think this is his best and most relevant book. Written in the mid ‘90s, I first read it whilst struggling to understand how the consultancy business works. I was in Murmansk in -30 at the time!
He explains beautifully how the world of work was changing and it is still going in that direction. His insight helped me to make sense of the running of a consultancy and a small business.

Charles Handy has incredible foresight and insight. I read the book in the late 90′s and tried/succeeded to implement the philisophy of all stakeholders are important instead of just the shareholders within the organisation I was leading at the time. Later when I was called back to the corporate office I could unfortunately not use it to the same extent, but also the bigger firms will come to understand it is the only way forward. It is a must read for the company leaders of today and if it is being applied by them, we will live in a better world tomorrow.
